Remember this post promising you guys a marcel wave tutorial based on Reese Witherspoon's character in Water for Elephants?
Well I ran into some serious snags! Every time I waved my hair and set it overnight I woke up to a frizzy mess and the wave structure was horrible. Certainly nothing to do a tutorial on. Then when I used my three barrel waver it looked too kinky and unnatural. Sigh.
So that's the bad news. Good news is that Tami over at My Moving Finger Writes as an excellent how-to on finger waves & I think we can all agree she's got it nailed!

So! In light of my finger wave fail
I decided to go for a Veronica Lake look last night
By adding just a few wave indentations into my hair
I first sprayed heat protectant on the strand then
took my curling iron
flipped it upside down (also a technique I learned from Tami)
and then put a section of hair in the barrel clamp (with it still upside down)
held for about 4 seconds
and then released, voila!
It's nowhere close to Reese's waves but I like the Veronica Lake subtleness of it!

I tried finger rolling my hair a few years back and this was the result:

Feel free to mock me! ;-)
Funny! Veronica Lake's hair is super pretty, too though so that worked out well.

ReplyDeletelove her various retro styles and I'll try do roll up my hair in pin curls now for tomorrow.
wish me luck xD
xo.
Hey, I noticed from the video that as she held the hot curler upside down clamped on her hair, she pulled the hair backwards against the clamp to create more of a crease. If you try that you should see deeper waves... I'm
ReplyDeleteGonna try it tomorrow!
